A Global Fusion: Capturing Amy & Jason’s Destination Wedding at Heritance Kandalama

What happens when classic London style, rich Chinese heritage, and time-honored Sri Lankan Tamil traditions converge in the heart of a tropical jungle? You get the breathtaking destination wedding of Amy and Jason.

As destination wedding photographers, we live for stories like this. Amy and Jason traveled all the way from the UK to exchange vows in Sri Lanka, bringing together an international community of family and friends. For our latest collaboration with Ceylon Stories, we had the absolute privilege of documenting every emotional, vibrant moment of this spectacular cross-cultural celebration.

Our canvas for the weekend? The iconic Heritance Kandalama.

The Venue: Framing Love Within Geoffrey Bawa’s Masterpiece

When planning a destination wedding in Sri Lanka, many couples instinctively think of pristine golden beaches. But Amy and Jason chose something far more dramatic, artistic, and raw.

Designed by the legendary architect Geoffrey Bawa, Heritance Kandalama is an architectural marvel carved directly into a cliffside. It is a space where the jungle doesn't just surround the hotel—it actively grows into it.

From a photography perspective, Kandalama is pure magic. The contrast of weathered, raw stone walls against the vibrant green canopy provided an editorial backdrop unlike any other. Whether framing the couple against the panoramic views of the ancient Sigiriya Rock and the Kandalama Tank, or utilizing the dramatic lines of the infinity pool, the venue allowed us to play beautifully with scale, shadow, and natural light.

The Visual Narrative: A Tale of Two Cultures

Documenting a fusion wedding requires a deep appreciation for detail. For Amy and Jason, the day was a beautiful transition of colors, textures, and sacred rituals.

Amy’s bridal look was a masterclass in cultural elegance. We began the day capturing the striking crimson hues of her traditional Chinese bridal dress. The red symbolized joy and prosperity, contrasting vividly against the muted, earthy tones of Kandalama’s stone corridors.

Later, the energy shifted as Amy transitioned into a breathtaking, intricately woven Tamil silk saree for the ceremony. The ceremony itself was a soulful, intimate Tamil wedding. The rituals were rich with heritage yet felt completely modern and authentic to who Amy and Jason are as a couple. Capturing the glances exchanged during the traditional rites, surrounded by loved ones who flew across continents to the teardrop island, reminded us why we love what we do.

The Art of the Collaboration

Great imagery happens when creative minds align. This project was a beautiful co-production, photographed by AnbuJawahar | Oneiro Photography in close association with the incredible team at Ceylon Stories. Working together alongside an elite lineup of local vendors allowed us to capture the sheer scale of the day without missing the quiet, fleeting instances of raw emotion.

Sri Lanka has firmly established itself as a premier global destination for couples looking for an immersive wedding experience. Amy and Jason’s wedding is proof that when you bring the world to the jungle, unforgettable stories are written.
